Penguins, landmines, and climate politics in the Falkland Islands

One of the biggest debates in the Falkland Islands today has nothing to do with sovereignty or citizenship, but rather with penguins and beaches. Land mines laid in the last conflict over the islands are now up for de-mining, but in the interim, the mined beaches have become habitats for penguins that somehow do not set them off. Is it worth getting rid of the mines only to disrupt the natural environment that has come back since the last fighting?
