The CCP and Xi Jinping

2017 is a big year for Xi Jinping, and thus for China. In November, if the current plans are carried through, Xi’s successors will be named in the Party Congress. This is an important tradition that has kept the CCP stable and effective in the last few decades, as one element of its institutionalisation programme to run the country. What, however, could this successor selection mean for Xi Jinping, widely considered to be one of China’s most powerful leaders in recent history?
