A new Cold War?

Fascinating argument about how Ukraine, Syria, Estonia, and hacking all fit together, and are all part of the next global conflict: between the US and Russia. Whether you agree or not (it is an opinion piece), it is a useful perspective to consider when trying to sort out what’s happening.

The most recent example of direct US-Russia conflict is of course the allegations about hacking related to the 2016 presidential elections. Here is a round-up of interesting pieces to read about the US sanctions and response to allegations of Russian hacking, as well as analysis of Russia’s relative non-response and cyber policy. While this is of course a relatively big deal, the sanctions are more symbolic than otherwise, and this is not the first nor likely the last spat between the US and Russia over more covert forms of intelligence gathering and politics, and it fact may just be politics as usual.
