Clashes Over the Internet

A few different stories developing over the past weeks detailing the clash between the expansion of the Internet, sovereignty, and free speech. In three separate countries websites like Facebook are under attack for being too permissive of content deemed unsuitable by the governments: Germany, Russia, and China. Of course Russia and China’s crackdown on the Internet is to a larger scale than Germany’s challenge of Facebook’s more permissive (American) standards of free speech, but it is interesting to see how in both democratic and not-so-democratic countries, the internet is coming up against government challengers.
