Russia’s Grozny Legacy

To the West, the spectre of Russian actions in Grozny, the capital of the semi-autonomous and often separatist Chechnya, looms large in the horrors of Aleppo. For Russia, however, Grozny is perhaps exactly the model Aleppo should follow to become prosperous again, albeit through total destruction. How similar are these two cases, and what could that mean for what happens next in Aleppo?
