Chad Fines ExxonMobil

Chad, one of the poorest countries in the world, obviously does not have a lot of money. What money is does have tends to go to the military and the president/dictator. In the past few years, however, President Deby has seized on another potential stream of revenue, fining the oil companies operating in the country for environmental damage. The latest attempt is fining ExxonMobil $75 billion, seven times Chad’s GDP. Why is this happening? Will it work? Read more here.
