Protests in Poland

Poland’s government has been becoming increasingly right-wing over the past few years, with periodic controversies erupting over the constitution, various laws, and pronouncements from the ruling party. But despite media attention, protest movements in the country had little to no effect. That changed recently when a proposal to significantly restrict abortion access in Poland caused thousands of women to strike and march, leading the government to quickly reverse their position. Why was this the issue that got a response, and what could this mean for Poland going forward?
