Uzbekistan’s Future Stifled by its Past?

Recently deceased Uzbek president Karimov was a notorious pioneer in authoritarian methods of anti-Islamist and anti-democratic suppression that have been copied by countries in the region and beyond. This piece not only outlines that history and those methods, but speculates as to how these past events could effect Uzbekistan’s potential for change as a new president comes to power.
