Finland, America, and Education Theory

For all the prestige and quality of America’s tertiary education system, the US’ primary and secondary systems of education are incredibly unequal and in many cases low quality. Americans have long looked to Northern European and other OECD allies for ideas on how to improve the education systems, with Finland’s model often looking ideal. What this interview reveals, however, is that despite decades of cross-national cooperation, American education theorists may be missing a key element of Finland’s success.
