Kashmir, a disputed region between Pakistan and India (and sometimes China), is once again a site of violent protests, which have now continued for over a month. Although this is a decades-old and not at all resolved dispute, the conflict gets relatively little coverage despite the important powers involved. This piece gives a good introduction to the conflict, which, as protests continue deserves to be better understood and more widely covered. Live fire is being used against the protestors, and deaths are mounting. So far curfews have been ineffective, and democracy, long something India has been touted for, is notable in its absence in Kashmir.
