Consequences of US torture policy

For many, the use of torture on inmates to obtain information remains a black stain on US actions in Iraq in particular. But given the election rhetoric of the Republican candidate who wants to bring back the practice, this timely article revisits the issue and examines the use of torture through a more comprehensive lens: US global strategy. Torture may be only a tactic, but its use has major strategic consequences (as does the existence of Guantanamo) that are worth considering beyond the possibility of gaining actionable intelligence.
