The Real Threat of Leaks

The major information leaks of the past few years have not had the national security repercussions administration officials first claimed were likely to follow Wikileaks and Snowden. There has however been a cost to US power worldwide: increasing dissatisfaction with American hypocrisy.

While America publicly upholding one standard but sometimes acting by another has long been a reality of international relations, before these leaks the specific details were rarely public knowledge. This article argues that the leaks revealed to the whole world about the realities of American hypocrisy have contributed to rising anti-American sentiment and ability of the US to maintain its standing as the holder of the moral high ground.
