Update from Brazil

Brazil’s embattled president (and by extension her party) has been in the headlines for months, and after protests, rumors, and scheduled votes to the contrary, she has now been impeached. No one is entirely sure who or what will happen now, but the initial changes do not look promising. The charges, official and unofficial, against her are clear and substantial. But those aligned against her are not without their own black marks, and there is no clear unifying successor if she goes. So far she has been impeached, but the trial and further proceedings will take months.

Particularly with the Summer Olympics in just a few months and the Zika outbreak, this scandal and drama will continue to attract significant amounts of domestic and international attention, regardless of what happens to Dilma.
