What’s going on in Western Sahara?

The Western Sahara, called alternatively, Morocco, the last colony of Africa, or a breakaway state, has been pretty much in limbo for decades. This frozen conflict may be flaring up again, with comments made by the UN Secretary-General provoking the Moroccan government into demanding the removal of UN peacekeeping troops, and possibly the return to violence.
