Lebanon Negotiates with Terrorists

Lebanon recently negotiated a prisoner release for 16 Lebanese soldiers who had been captured by Al-Qaeda’s Syrian affiliate Jabhat al-Nusra. The homecoming, which was in exchange for the freeing of 29 Jabhat al-Nusra members, was celebrated on national media. Showing that the Lebanese government would do anything to get its soldiers back will likely improve morale, but there are some negative consequences too to the deal, illustrating why negotiating with terrorists isn’t always a good idea.
