Oil prices and global unrest

As oil prices drop (shockingly, given where they were not very long ago), just as high prices can have consequences for peace and security, so can low oil prices particularly for countries that rely heavily on those revenues. These countries include: Iran, Venezuela, and Russia, among others, though Saudi Arabia is probably okay… for now…. Certainly it increases the importance of obtaining oil rents for various states and non-state groups, increasing local and likely international competition in certain wars and for as-yet-untapped areas of the world, like the Arctic.
