Why are so many people fleeing Eritrea?

Eritrea is an unknown African country to most people, which is probably how their leaders like it. If no one really knows much about the East African country, then it’s probably easier for its leaders to get away with what the UN calls “systematic, widespread, and gross human rights violations.” It has been recently widely reported that there are more refugees in 2015 than anytime since World War II, and the Mediterranean crisis has been particularly highlighted. Many thousands of those fleeing for Europe, are Eritrean. Read more about why so many people are willing to risk everything to leave home.
