Burundi’s regional implications

Although the rest of the world may not be paying attention to this tiny country that’s on the verge of mass violence, its African neighbors are taking this crisis very seriously, as evidenced by the public pressure exerted by nearby leaders to intervene somehow. There is some amount of irony in their efforts, however, mainly that “Burundi’s political crisis is centred on a leader who is refusing to leave office after almost 10 years. The man [Uganda’s president] sent in to mediate has been in power for almost 30.”
