Update from Burundi: Failed Coup

So Burundi’s president trying for a third presidential term sparked hundreds of thousands to flee and deadly riots. Then he left for a conference in Tanzania, and a military coup was attempted, to some amount of popular acclaim. Then he came back, and within hours the coup was over, the leaders in jail, and more people killed in riots. A few days later, the main opposition leader was killed. Currently unclear what the long-term effects will be, but the exodus of refugees continues, and it’s not looking good for Burundi.

  1. Reading your words, I am Rwandan who happen to be a student in Burundi. Things are way too horrible down there. I hope you’re NOT in Burundi.
